Defining the Ricardo Centenary

Ricardo is a global engineering, strategic and environmental consultancy. Founded by Sir Harry Ricardo in 1915, the company has been carrying his vision for maximising efficiency and eliminating waste for over 100 years, achieving some amazing feats of engineering along the way.

We helped Ricardo celebrate their centenary achievements, tell their impressive story so far, and spread the word on their plans for the next 100 years.

Branding the company's centenary celebration year began with an audit of the design and material requirements for the different activities that would be happening throughout the year.

We developed a usable and distinct identity, which honoured the company's heritage whilst adhering to core brand principles.

Design and development of a campaign microsite for a market-leading engineering client to celebrate the company’s centenary year and showcase its most significant work over the past 100 years.

We art-directed, designed and illustrated a 118-page coffee-table book, from cover to cover, to inspire the next generation of engineers and celebrate the history of Ricardo.

Painstaking attention to detail and intensive image research were fundamental pillars of the project, as were the many hours of proof reading and editorial reviews. The 10-page illustrated timeline formed the heart of the piece – and was a labour of love for us!

Centenary video

Our brief was to tell the Ricardo story, from its foundations to the present day, focusing on its greatest achievements and highlighting future goals – in as short a running time as possible.

We researched, scripted, story-boarded, filmed and produced the whole film on time and to budget. Liaising with the client at every step of the process ensured a very happy customer and a great video that could be used internationally to promote the Ricardo brand and celebrate the success and completion of the first Ricardo century.

This microsite was built to celebrate our centenary year. We have been involved in so many exciting projects in that time that we wanted a way to really bring that history to life and also give our staff a chance to get involved in various activities and events. The animation and imagery created for the site, and its large-graphic format, mean the design is really eye-catching and engaging, and the event blogs that ran during the Centenary year gave our staff the chance to get involved. This will be an enduring web asset and a great homage to our history.
